Speedo puts a removable smart tracker into standard Vanquisher racing goggles

Speedo designed a modular telemetry pod that snaps into standard Vanquisher goggles without using a bulky heads-up display. The screen-free design earned World Aquatics approval for official competitions, offering competitive swimmers detailed stroke diagnostics without expensive integrated hardware.

Speedo is taking a direct swipe at smart-goggle pioneer Form with SpeedoIQ, a sensor system that tracks pool sessions without strapping a miniature heads-up display to your face. Instead of forcing swimmers into bulky, integrated hardware with high failure points, Speedo engineered a tiny, removable pod that slots into the latest iteration of its standard Vanquisher racing goggles. The module measures pace, stroke count, breathing patterns, head position, and flip-turn dynamics across all major stroke types, dumping the granular telemetry into a companion app the moment you dry off.

The real leverage here is sanctioned competition. World Aquatics has approved SpeedoIQ for official race meets, a feat head-up display rivals cannot match due to strict in-water coaching restrictions. Speedo frames the lack of an in-lens screen as a focus-enhancing feature, though in practice, it means sacrificing live pacing splits mid-lap for detailed post-swim diagnostics.

For regular lap swimmers, ditching the glass projection yields a massive practical payoff: you keep the low-profile hydrodynamic seal of standard racing goggles, avoid paying recurring subscription paywalls common among smart headsets, and if the strap or lens scratches, you replace a cheap pair of Vanquishers rather than a three-hundred-dollar gadget. Speedo has not finalized retail pricing or launch timing yet, but for competitive swimmers who need legal data collection without the electronic bulk, SpeedoIQ looks like the smartest compromise in the pool.
