Ricky Panesar, founder of UK-based repair specialist iCorrect, warned in a Forbes column that $1,155 is merely the floor. In reality, repair shops will likely charge even more due to the device's extreme structural complexity.
"I think we will see the most expensive repair prices from Apple for any pocket device we have come across," Ricky Panesar points out.
Crucially, the folding OLED panel is tightly integrated with an intricate multi-stage hinge mechanism, requiring high-precision disassembly. Replacing the internal screen on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, which employs Flex Titanium tech to reduce the crease, costs roughly £594, while a Galaxy Z Fold 7 screen repair sits around £569. Apple's upcoming foldable looks like a massive budget sink by comparison, charging nearly double for the same fix.
The math is straightforward. With the iPhone Fold expected to retail above $2,000, a single cracked screen will devour more than half the device's original cost. While independent repairs should become cheaper over time, early buyers gain little comfort from future price drops. Given the tight grip on replacement parts and high breakage risks, AppleCare+ essentially becomes a mandatory surcharge.
