raditional ultraportables always stick you with an infuriating choice: listen to a tiny, high-pitched fan whir like a jet engine or watch your processor throttle down to crawl speed. At IFA in Berlin, Lenovo showcased two concept machines that approach portability from completely different angles: Project AeroBlade and Project Swan. Project AeroBlade throws out mechanical fans entirely, swapping them for Frore Systems' AirJet solid-state cooling chips. Instead of spinning blades that suck in dust and wear out over time, the system uses microscopic piezoelectric membranes vibrating at ultrasonic frequencies to generate high-pressure airflow silently.
Inside the machine, Lenovo packed four AirJet Mini modules, each rated to vent 7.5 watts of heat for a combined 30-watt cooling envelope.

Lenovo framed the concept around raw mobility in its announcement, matching that thermal headroom directly to Intel's Lunar Lake chips (17–30W TDP). For everyday use, that translates to sustained full-throttle performance without the throttling of passive laptops or the dust-choked heat pipes of conventional builds.
Shaving Millimeters and Grams
Discarding bulky copper heatsinks and fan assemblies fundamentally reshapes the hardware in your hands. AeroBlade leverages a miniaturized motherboard within a magnesium-aluminum frame to shrink thickness down to barely 10 mm (0.39 inches) and drop total weight to just under 830 grams (about 1.83 pounds). You do sacrifice port variety—settling for three USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 slots—but you gain a full OLED panel and Wi-Fi 7 in a chassis you can genuinely lift with two fingers.
By contrast, Lenovo's Project Swan takes the opposite, far more gimmicky route: stuffing a motorized rollable mechanism into a 14-inch ThinkBook frame that expands into a 17-inch display (2850 x 1672). It is a clever party trick, but the motors and rolling tracks push total carry weight up to 3.5 pounds while introducing moving parts waiting to fail in a backpack.
Solid-state cooling chips remain considerably pricier to manufacture and integrate than pennies-on-the-dollar copper fins, which is why commercial store shelves will have to wait a bit longer for mass rollout. Yet while rollable displays like Swan feel like fragile engineering flexes, AeroBlade's silent, fanless architecture actually solves the thermal and weight problems users deal with daily.
