OWC Thunderbolt 5 dock drops adapters for dual HDMI and 140W power

OWC's new desktop hub connects two high-refresh 4K displays and charges demanding laptops through a single cable. Shipping in November for $350, it targets professionals tired of juggling messy adapters.

OWC is taking aim at the messy tangle of desktop adapters. The accessory maker just announced its upcoming Thunderbolt 5 Dock with Dual HDMI, a desktop hub for Mac and PC that puts two native HDMI 2.1 ports directly on the back. Instead of chaining USB-C-to-HDMI dongles together, you can run two external displays straight from the box at up to 4K 240Hz or 8K 60Hz via Display Stream Compression, with room for a third display through the pass-through Thunderbolt port.

The real selling point here is single-cable sanity for power-hungry laptops. The dock delivers up to 140W of charging power over Thunderbolt 5—enough to keep demanding 16-inch MacBooks and hefty mobile workstations running under load without uncoiling their factory power bricks. Up front, a USB-C port pumps out 30W for phones and accessories, while the chassis integrates a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet jack, UHS-II SD and microSD card slots, and backward compatibility across Thunderbolt 4, USB4, and Thunderbolt 3 Macs. OWC even bundled a macOS driver to revive Apple's long-abandoned USB SuperDrive.

OWC plans to ship the dock in early November for $349.99, alongside a standalone 1.5-meter Thunderbolt 5 cable landing in mid-October for $58.99 with up to 80Gbps bidirectional bandwidth and 240W power delivery. At $350, this is undeniably a luxury tax for convenience. If your daily workflow does not demand multiple high-refresh 4K monitors and full-throttle 140W charging on a single tether, that drawer full of cheap USB-C dongles will keep doing the job just fine.
